"Chicken Hunter doesn't understand PETA. Out of site out of mind? You won't let Mariah just give it to a homeless dude in New York? You put it on a plane and send it to Mongolia? Strange. The fur coat ends up missing, maybe she will find it in the same place they hid her carrer."

A fur coat Mariah Carey donated to animal rights organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has gone missing on its way to benefit nomads in Mongolia. The We belong together singer was so disgusted when a mystery admirer sent her two mink coats, she immediately passed them onto PETA so they could be put to good use.PETA distributes unwanted furs to help clothe the homeless and refugees, and also distributes strips of fur to nomads in Mongolia to line winter coats.

Porky Pigs Killer gets his day in court

"Chicken Hunter thinks Joseph's thinking is way off. He is quoted as saying "Oh yes, it's a sad thing. But, you know, all that meat could've fed some poor people, and instead it went into the ground. And ... that's all I can say right now." IF THAT IS ALL YOU NEED FOR JUSTIFICATION THEN I BET IF YOU KILLED AN NFL LINEMAN YOU COULD HAVE FED SOME POOR PEOPLE TOO. Chicken Hunter thinks this guy is an A-Hole. One thing he did right was kill a feral pig, he just didn't ask. Feral Pigs are the devil in short pink dresses"

A 28-year-old man accused of trespassing on private property and killing a 300-pound pet feral pig in Mililani Mauka was free on bail on a firearms charge at the time, court records show.
Joseph V. Calarruda V yesterday pleaded not guilty at Circuit Court to felony livestock theft in connection with the killing of the pig, named "Porky," at a lychee farm Oct. 22. Trial has been set for Jan. 22, 2007. Calarruda is free on $50,000 bail.
When asked if he regretted what happened, Calarruda told television cameras outside of court yesterday, "Oh yes, it's a sad thing. But, you know, all that meat could've fed some poor people, and instead it went into the ground. And ... that's all I can say right now."
Calarruda has other legal problems. Calarruda was charged June 9 with bringing an AK-47 assault rifle and a loaded ammunition magazine to his workplace. He was free on $40,000 bail on the firearm charge when the alleged pig incident occurred. Conviction on the firearms charge carries a maximum 10-year prison sentence.

64,000 pigs had to wait to die because of paper work snafu

"Chicken Hunter wonders if we can't keep the workers documented then how many of the 32,000 hogs killed daily are really looked at for health, disease, Osma bin Piggy or maybe a cigarette butt. Because if I do the math...5000 employees and 32,000 hogs killed daily. Less the one worker who falls into a grinder, the eighty who cut off fingers, the seventy who are stoned and the 60+ managers that do what Corporate tells them to do. Roughly 3500 workers killing 32,000 hogs. Nine hogs per worker per day. Nice to see the consolidation of the food groups is really working out for the working man.
Chicken Hunter thinks these guys should make $48k a year at least. In my country Greenland"

Employees at a Smithfield Foods Inc. slaughtering plant returned to work Saturday after walking off their jobs the previous two days to protest the recent firing of immigrants.
In all, about 1,000 nonunion workers, mostly Hispanic, participated in the walkout, and company officials have said they won't be disciplined. The agreement to return to work came late Friday after Smithfield representatives met with leaders from a Roman Catholic Church to discuss the workers' grievances.

The plant in Tar Heel, located about 25 miles south of Fayetteville, employs 5,000 workers and slaughters up to 32,000 hogs a day. Smithfield, Va.-based Smithfield Foods (nyse: SFD - news - people ) is the world's largest pork processor.

Judith Regan's new book written by Mel Gibson and Michael Richards

LOS ANGELES -- Actor Michael Richards, famous for playing Kramer on "Seinfeld," is apologizing for using racial slurs during a stand-up comedy routine in Los Angeles....

"Chicken Hunter has heard through the grapevine that Mel Gibson and Michael Richards have teamed up for a Buddy Comedy blockbuster coming to the big screen in January of 2007.
The dynamic and soft spoken duo have joined forces in a 'Lethal' combo of punchy racist humor that Afro-Americans and Jews really love. Joe Peshi may join in to get the Italian American viewer or as Mel or Michael may say, those Goombas. Over heard in the background of many of the scenes is the wonderfully composed soundtrack by N.W.A. Niggaz4life (1991)Niggaz 4 Life album. A corporate movie bastard is overheard saying, "The Mel and Michael teaming was genius!" It is set to be filmed in a concentration camp setting in the American South previous to the civil war.

Judith Regan intended to publish the book version of the movie called If I were a racist, which caused widespread controversy. She issued an eight-page defense of the deal, entitled Why I Did It, in which she confessed to being a racist wife and that she felt the spirit of cops and audience members in the room with her as she spoke to Michael Richards. On November 20, 2006, News Corporation announced that it was canceling the publication of the book due to bad press and not because of what is right and what is wrong.

Alaskan Thanksgiving Feast: Whale Meat
By RACHEL D'OROThe Associated PressFriday, November 17, 2006; 7:02 PM

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- David Smith was a new arrival to the North Slope village of Nuiqsut last year when the former resident of upstate New York cooked up a few turkeys and vat of chili for the Eskimo community's Thanksgiving dinner. He was completely unprepared for another dish on the menu: hundreds of pounds of gleaming red, raw whale meat, served frozen solid in bite-size pieces.
"I thought we were going to have a feast. I never assumed it would be a feast of whale meat," said Smith, 76, the village administrator

Let the world know that you can't get laid by showing up at midnight gaming championship

"Chicken Hunter wondered where some of the biggest losers in the United States gather. The challenge is to sift through your ordinary losers, the kind that wait in line for Star Wars, and find losers that other losers worship. These losers may even have a "I'm a gamer and not a virgin story" to tell the other losers who are still virgins (90% of all gamers are virgins and/or live at home with Mom...Newsweak Vol. 4 1999).
This gathering of freaks and pimple faced non-prom going citizens has to be stopped. On giant culling in Texas would improve the overall gene pool of Americans."

Woman straps meat to leg in hopes of being mistaken for Ron Jeremy

"Chicken Hunter has been accused of having meat strapped to his leg. Chicken Hunter has never had Coke or Weed strapped to his body. Meat, Coffee, Cigarettes and Beer are one thing but If Chicken Hunter had his way those dealers I would have them slinging rock in the cold north section of Greenland."

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- Brevard County investigators made a big bust in Cape Canaveral on Thursday.

Authorities said they've cleared the streets of some of the area's worst drug dealers, WESH 2 News reported.

Police targeted 32 people who they believe are drug dealers, and at least 20 of those people have been arrested so far.

Several items were seized, including a purple car with 22-inch rims and a bullet hole on the hood. Police also confiscated several 1-pound bags of marijuana that are worth about $1,000 each, some cocaine, cash and five steaks that were taped to the leg of one of the women arrested

Police said they believe she was shoplifting the meat.

"The unique thing about this investigation is we were able to identify the sources of cocaine and marijuana that was being brought into the city and distributed to the underlings all the way down to the street-level dealers," said an investigator who asked not to be identified. "Usually we target either the street level or the middle or upper. In this one, we were able to do all three. We were very successful at that."

Detectives said some of the people arrested will face federal charges.

A story about Mel Gibson's Elephant

"Chicken Hunter heard a rumor that these Elephants were targeting the Jewish village down the dirt road from the village that was attacked. Beer and Elephants are two things that don't mix. Much like Mel Gibson on the Gin these elephants need to hire a P.R. person and say they are sorry."

A HERD of elephants drunk on rice beer has trampled three people to death, including a four-year-old boy, on a rampage through a village in the northeastern Indian state of Assam.
Residents of Teok Kathoni tried to scare them off using drums and firecrackers, but the elephants consumed the remote village’s stocks of rice beer, then charged through huts, killing the boy and injuring his eight-year-old brother.
It was the latest in a string of incidents over the past fortnight, which wildlife experts have attributed to human encroachment on the elephant’s natural habitat in the region. Assam has India’s biggest population of elephants, estimated at 5,300. Until recently, they lived in relative seclusion in the dense forest that covers much of the region near India’s borders with Bangladesh, Burma, Bhutan and China.

Former New Jersey Senator accused of being PIG HEADED...Or at least having a pig head on your doorstep

"Chicken Hunter thinks this is a waste of good pig. If I have a problem with someone I get a roll of nickels and wrap my fist around the silver and punch someone in the face. This reminds me of the Godfather but somewhat more sissy. In the Godfather you had a horse head in the bed, this pig thing looks like the work of an rookie."

Decapitated Hog Head Lands on Former New Jersey State Senator's Doorstep

Cherry Hill, NJ- Former New Jersey State Senator Alene Ammond was enjoying a family dinner on Sunday evening, November 12th when she heard a thump by her front door. Visiting was her 16 year old granddaughter who ran to the door, looked out and yelped, “There is a severed pigs head on the porch”. The family ran outside and in astonishment and disgust saw the hog head. “This was an obvious message from my political opponents to scare me,” Ammond exclaimed. Ammond who is known nationally for exposing political corruption is spearheading a few major corruption investigations at this time. REST OF THE STORY

Colonel Sanders is a tweaker according to article

KFC tweaks Colonel Sanders logo.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Colonel Sanders is shedding his white suit jacket for a cook's red apron.
KFC unveiled a new brand logo Tuesday that includes bolder colors and a more well-defined visage of the late Kentucky Fried Chicken founder, Colonel Harland Sanders, who will keep his classic black bow tie, glasses and goatee.
"This change gives us a chance not only to make sure we stay relevant but also communicates to customers the realness of Colonel Sanders and the fact that he was a chef," said Gregg Dedrick, president of KFC's U.S. division.
The logo is changing for only the fourth time in 50 years, and for the first time in nearly a decade. The smiling Colonel is featured against a red background that matches his red apron - with the name "Kentucky Fried Chicken." KFC had dropped "fried" from its name and logo over a decade ago as it expanded its non-fried menu items to appeal to the health conscious.
Now, the chain is again stressing its traditional fried chicken, with a slight twist.
Store designs also will include new graphics with the Kentucky Fried Chicken name and signs that read, "Finger Lickin' Good," and "11 Secret Herbs and Spices," references to the Colonel's famously secret recipe

TYSON FOOD SEES LOSS PLANNING TO PASSIT ON

"Chicken Hunter wonders about Tyson foods. They have consolidated the market to the point that if a farmer is profitable or if Tyson didn't figure out how to plug all of the variables of food production to point in the direction of Tyson corporate offices they will make the consumer pay. If it isn't helpful to Tyson Foods they will work extremely hard to make the consumer pay for it's short-sited approach to managing the dinner plate. How can this extreme consolidation of America's food be good?
REMEMBER: FARMER GOOD- TYSON CORP ...... When prices fall TYSON loves it and refuse to pass it on, when they pay a market price they don't have give any of that gain back they want you to pay for it next quarter.
In Greenland we have local vendors, local meat source, local butchers, local bakers, local candlestick makers and we don't have corporations controlling what I eat and how much I pay for it. (If you want to read about our struggles with Greenland's food read how these GUYS are impeding my family's hunting rights.

Tyson posts loss, warns of higher meat prices
From Tribune news services
Published November 14, 2006

Corn farmers predicted this year's bumper crop in the U.S. The surprise was the surge in prices that came with it.A 77 percent jump in the past year has made corn the most expensive since 1996, squeezing profit at companies such as Tyson Foods Inc.The world's largest meat processor warned Monday that rising corn prices could mean consumers will have to pay more for chicken, beef and pork next year, as it ended its fiscal year with a third-straight quarterly loss."I believe the American consumer is going to have to pay more for protein. We are at new levels on corn that are not likely going to be retrenching back to '06 levels," said Chief Executive Richard Bond.Bond said the price of corn, which is used to feed chicken and livestock, is going up because of demand from ethanol plants springing up to provide alternative fuel sources to oil. The Springdale, Ark.-based company said its fourth-quarter loss was $56 million, or 17 cents a share, compared with a profit of $117 million, or 33 cents a share, a year ago. Analysts expected a loss of 4 cents a share. Revenue was flat at about $6.47 billion. Not even the third-largest harvest in history can stem the advance of corn prices. Rising sales to livestock and ethanol producers and a global grain shortage sent corn climbing to $3.72 a bushel last week. On Monday, March corn contracts fell a penny, to $3.585 a bushel, at the Chicago Board of Trade."Quite frankly, the American consumer is making a choice here," Bond said. "This is either corn for feed or corn for fuel. That's what's causing this."Prices might need to top $5 a bushel before demand slows, said Brent Harris, who runs a commodity fund at Pacific Investment Management in Newport Beach, Calif.Historically, low prices follow big corn crops in the U.S., the world's largest producer and exporter. The record 2004 harvest of 11.81 billion bushels caused corn to sink from about $3.40 a bushel in April of that year to $1.94 a bushel 10 months later.Since the end of September, when most farmers started harvesting this year's crop, prices have jumped 31 percent. Corn prices "have clearly caught the market wrong-footed," said Credit Suisse analyst David Nelson in Chicago.

For at least five years, I've been writing a media column for Veg News magazine. A media column? In a veggie mag? Well, while reading Derrick Jensen's latest book, "Endgame," I came across a passage that effectively explains this curious arrangement.
Jensen tells of how the New York Times, after 9/11, published, "profiles of people killed in the attack on the Word Trade Center." Through these profiles (which were syndicated throughout the country) readers learned, for example of the "efficient executive" who "never forgot the attention to spit and polish, in his work or play," and a top stockbroker: a "prankster with a heart" who'd "pull up next to you in his Porsche-a 911-flip the bird, grin, and take off in the wind." Jensen's reaction is what I wish to share with you:"Imagine how our discourse and actions would be different if people daily detailed for us the lives-the individuality, the small and large joys and fears and sorrows-of those whom this culture enslaves or kills. Imagine if we gave these victims that honor, that attention. Imagine if everyday newspapers carried an account of each child who starves to death because cities take the resources on which the child's traditional community has forever depended. She never ran, the article might read, because she never had the energy, but she loved to be tickled, and loved to watch her mother, no matter what her mother did. When her mother carried her in a sling on her back, her large eyes took in every detail of her surroundings. She loved to smile at her neighbors, and smile also at little birds that landed on the ground near her mother's feet. Imagine if we considered her life as valuable as that of the 'efficient executive,' and if we considered violence against her to as heinous as we consider violence against him. Imagine, too, if our discourse included accounts of those nonhumans whose lives this culture makes unspeakably miserable: the billions of creatures bred for torture in feedlot, factory farm, or laboratory; the wild creatures worth money, who are pursued and destroyed no matter where they hide; the wild creatures unvalued by the economic system, who are eliminated because they are in the way of production. Imagine if we spoke of the threespine sitckleback, the Miami blue butterfly, white abalone, spectacled eider, southwestern willow flycatcher, Holmgren's milkvetch, Pacific pocket mouse, individually and collectively. Imagine, finally, if we considered their lives as valuable as our own, and their contribution to the world and to our neighborhoods to be as valuable as that of a stockbroker-or even moreso-even if the stockbroker does drive a Porsche, flip us the bird, and take off like the wind."So, that's why I write a media column for a vegetarian magazine...

I'm rubbin' it: McDonald's Manager gets busted

"Chicken Hunter thinks too much time with Happy Meals, clowns and trans-fats made the manager a little wacky in the head. Maybe his punishment should involve a really hot steaming cup of McDonald's Coffee poured on his crotch."

Fast-food manager accused of sex abuse
PROVO — A manager of a McDonald's fast-food store has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing workers at the restaurant. Two 16-year-old girls reported to police last Monday that their manager at the Pleasant Grove McDonald's restaurant would make sexual comments and kiss their necks while at work, according to a police report filed in 4th District Court. The girls said the man, 36, would also massage their backs and move his hands up and down, touching their buttocks, as well, police said. The man was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of forcible sex abuse. He is scheduled to appear in 4th District Court on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m.

PORKY PIG KILLED Vacationing in Hawaii: Daffy to give Eulogy

"Chicken Hunter thinks this guy should go down hard. It may seem unsportsman to cull a baby seal but I had my reasons. This punk deserves the CHICKEN HUNTER PUNCH IN THE FACE award. The 'funny' thing is the pig was more employable than the scumbag that killed him. Punks do what he did and punks are not cool. He stabbed a pig in a garage. mmmmm sporty."

Makaha man to be charged in stabbing pet pig to death

By Rod Ohira
Advertiser Staff Writer

Trapped by several hunting dogs in a garage, between a washer and dryer, the 300-plus pound pig squealed in fear before a Makaha man allegedly ignored pleas from the pet's owner and stabbed it to death, witnesses told police.

Porky was no feral pig. Rather he was a beloved pet and celebrity of sorts, who had appeared in the popular television series "Lost," a local airline commercial, and had several other TV commercial offers pending.

The pig was killed last month by a man trespassing on private property, a 130-acre lychee farm on Kapanoe Street at the top of Mililani Mauka, police said.

"This is really sick, it makes no sense ... there's no sport in it," Detective Randall Borges said of the killing.

The Makaha man, who had been identified through ongoing investigation, surrendered to police at the Wahiawa station Wednesday and was arrested for felony livestock theft. He is expected to be charged today.

The man has a criminal record; he was convicted in 2000 for kidnapping his then-girlfriend in the parking lot of the Wai'anae police station. He served one year in prison and five years' probation.

The 5-year-old pig's owner is the resident manager of the lychee farm. Borges said the manager had caught the suspect trespassing two weeks before the pig was killed and had warned him not to come back. The man and two other pig hunters returned Oct. 22 with five dogs, said Borges.

According to witnesses, Porky was sleeping in a bed of grass when five dogs chased him into the garage.

"The people were right there in his face, telling him to get the dogs out, that he was trespassing and not to kill the pig because he was a pet," Borges said. "They heard the pig squealing and then there was silence."

The man allegedly went into the garage, killed the pig and dragged it out and left it in front of its owner, police said.

The incident is drawing the attention of national pet groups.

The Humane Society of the United States yesterday asked City Prosecutor Peter Carlisle to fully investigate and prosecute the man.

In a letter to Carlisle, the organization expressed its concern "because of the apparent callous, gratuitously cruel nature of the killing, magnified by the fact that the men were apparently unaffected by the screams of witnesses begging them to stop the massacre."

Dale Bartlett, the society's national deputy manager of animal cruelty issues, said, "The seeming malice with which the killing was carried out, heedless of its effects on Porky's family members, is particularly troublesome and speaks to a disturbing propensity toward violence that we fear may carry over to affect people as well, given the well-proven connection between cruelty to animals and violence against people."

Bartlett urged Carlisle to seek significant jail time and psychological counseling for the pig hunter.

The prosecutor's office yesterday also received a letter from Farm Sanctuary, a farm animal protection organization which operates animal shelters in upstate New York and northern California, that supports prosecution against the man.

According to police, Porky had between $2,000 and $5,000 worth of commercial jobs pending.

VW Chairmen left because he hates Guns and Roses and viewed Slash as the devil

"Chicken Hunter thinks there is much more to the story. Those Germans bombed Pearl Harbor and are capable of many sneaky things. Greenland was never attacked by the Germans so I guess a man has the right to resign after having a great year. I heard somewhere on the blogoshpere thatCEO Bernard Pischetsrieder left to pusue the recently vacated CEO position at Hotdog on a Stick."

VW's CEO Resigns November 08, 2006 By Gregory Solman

VW's Rabbit has tallied impressive domestic sales.

LOS ANGELES German automaker Volkswagen said CEO Bernd Pischetsrieder—who had been given a contract extension through 2012 only last May—would instead step down Dec. 31.Martin Winterkorn, the head of VW's luxury car unit Audi, will replace Pischetsrieder.
The decision comes amid layoffs of up to 20,000 workers, along with extended work hours at VW's German plants and other cost-cutting measures, in an effort to compete with Asian automakers and to boost U.S. market share. The resignation of Pischetsrieder and his replacement by Winterkorn is "a shock wave that will take awhile to travel through the industry," said Todd Turner, principal analyst at Car Concepts in Thousand Oaks, Calif."It goes to show how shortsighted VW planning has become," Turner said. "If you are projecting that kind of unhappiness with the management, why extend his contract?"VW's lead agency, MDC Partners' Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami, declined comment.According to Car Concepts, VW is up 10 percent on the year to 198,000 units, based largely on sales of its Rabbit and Passat models."That's very far from VW's high-water mark, but it's the right direction," said Turner. "Their problem in recent years is they have a couple of good years, then a couple of bad years. They've been inconsistent in their strategy."One source said Pischetsrieder's departure stemmed from an internal high-level power struggle at the company. "Apparently, the ax fell on the losing team," the source said. "Marketing and sales are turning around, certainly in Europe, and now in the U.S. VW is a brand with a lot of potential, but it's so chaotic politically, with the management politics and the labor unions, it's really German high drama.""The business environment for the auto industry is so difficult that layering politics on top of that makes it impossible for these companies to thrive," said Dan Gorrell, president of automotive consultancy Gorrell Group in Tustin, Calif. "They need to focus on business, not palace politics."Speaking of Winterkorn, Gorrell said, "Audi was certainly doing a lot of the right things."Based on his accomplishments at Audi, Turner projected that Winterkorn "will be fantastic. He's a hard driver who simply will not accept status quo."VW spent $335 million on domestic advertising in 2005 and $205 million through August 2006, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.Audi spends about $100 million on ads via Havas' McKinney in Durham, N.C., which is defending the business against three other shops in an ongoing review

Feeling Rummy: Rumsfeld to step down

Chicken Hunter's Thoughts:

"Being from Greenland I try to stay away from the kind of personal attacks on politicians from the USA, but I think if you walked through Don Rumsfeld's yard he would yell, "HEY YOU! GET OFF OF MY LAWN BEFORE I CALL THE POLICE."

Associated Press

WASHINGTON — President Bush said Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld is stepping down.
Bush, reaching into the administration of his father, said that former CIA Director Robert Gates, the current Texas A&M president, will take over at the Pentagon and in prosecuting the war in Iraq.
The development occurred one day after midterm elections that cost Republicans control of the House, and possibly the Senate, as well. Surveys of voters at polling places said opposition to the war was a significant contributor to the Democratic victory.
Bush defended Rumsfeld's troubled tenure, calling him "a patriot who served this country with honor and distinction."
In today's news conference in Washington today, Bush also congratulated Democrats on their election victories and said he looks forward to working with the opposition party.
``I recognize that many Americans voted last night to register their displeasure with the lack of progress being made'' in Iraq, the president said. ``Yet I also believe most Americans - and leaders here in Washington from both political parties - understand we cannot accept defeat.''
Rumsfeld, a key target of Iraq war critics, apparently is stepping down in the wake of Democratic midterm election gains.
Gates led the CIA, under then-President George H.W. Bush, from November 1991 to January 1993.

Starbucks Coffee Are they friends of the poor coffee grower?

  • Some people believe in an expanded definition of quality one that adds concerns about the way coffee beans are grown and purchased to the usual criteria of cup taste. Some coffee is Organic and labeled as Fair Trade, which normally means purchasing from small farmer cooperatives. Many agree that many Estate coffees taste fine. However, after visiting estates throughout Central America and hearing about how the workers live in company housing, shop at company stores and are educated at company schools, the coffee left us with a bad taste in our mouth.

    Chicken Hunter's Thoughts
"Coffee is great! I don't know much about fair trade and organic coffee but I think people should consider where their coffee comes from... Personally I don't care, I'm a Tasters Choice Instant Coffee Man. I know there isn't a better way to enjoy coffee than with Tasters Choice...Pre-ground and it melts in the cup of hot water, no filters no waiting...Just instant"

Confusion surrounds Starbucks involvement in Ethiopian application
Applications from the Ethiopian Government to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the coffee names ‘Sidamo’ ‘Harar’ and ‘Yirgacheffe’ have been rejected, prompting criticism from the Oxfam charity.Oxfam consider the Starbucks chain to be the villains of the piece but according to reports in the British newspaper ‘The Guardian’, Starbucks themselves deny the accusation.Starbucks did indeed submit an application for ‘Sidamo’ in 2004, causing USPTO to reject an Ethiopian application of 2005. Starbuck’s application lapsed in June 2006, but the US National Coffee Association (NCA) continued to object to Ethiopian claims. According to ‘The Guardian’, representatives of NCA have admitted that this opposition was sparked by Starbucks, one of their foremost members.Oxfam claim that the trademarks would have increased Ethiopia’s earnings from coffee considerably and ironically they have cooperated with Starbucks in the past to boost coffee production in the country. Starbucks point to the premium prices they continue to pay for coffee from Ethiopia and the enormous growth in their purchase of coffee from the country in recent years.Ethiopia appears to be continuing to pursue its claims in America. brd

Sex Offenders Fill Ranks of Family-Friendly Businesses

Where Do Sex Predators Work?

Like a lot of mothers, Vanessa Basile clicked into the state's sex-offender registry to see if pedophiles lived near her property.
"We were quite surprised," she said.
And then she considered the next question, one that doesn't cross the minds of most parents.
"You see how many live around you and you figure they have to work," she said. "They've got to work somewhere."
For years, sex-offender registries concentrated exclusively on where sex offenders live. Only recently did Virginia begin a comprehensive program to list work addresses, sometimes dispatching troopers to check the addresses' accuracy.
Although the state's registry does have a mapping function for work addresses, Your NewsChannel 3 found the graphic-intensive function slow to work on most computers. The data also frequently displayed mistakes, often showing home addresses instead of work addresses.
To get a comprehensive look at where sex offenders spend a third of their days or more, You NewsChannel 3 obtained from the Virginia State Police a comprehensive database listing the employment of Virginia's registered sex offenders.
We found hundreds working at jobs that put them in direct contact with the kinds of people they hurt in the first place.

"That is surprising," said Tony Darley as he played with his son one afternoon at Mount Trashmore. Like many parents, Darley had not considered that bringing his child to a fast-food restaurant might mean contact with a sex offender.
The NewsChannel 3 analysis of the state police data reveals McDonalds employs the most sex offenders in the region, even though a company spokesman said the fast-food icon neither knowingly hires or employs convicted sex offenders.
"Don't they have some kind of interview they go through where they are asked questions like that," said Darley.
Your NewsChannel 3 found a sex offender working at McDonalds who said, yes, the company does ask. The convicted offender said he checked the box on the application declaring he was a convicted sex offender, and he got the job anyway.
"McDonalds says on their application they give an equal opportunity chance," he said. "That means everybody" including felons, he said.
When asked why so many sex offenders work at local McDonalds restaurants, the company issued this statement: "We take these matters very seriously and are investigating these specific allegations. It is our company policy not to hire or employ registered sex offenders."
Although McDonalds said it would investigate, no one from the company asked Your NewsChannel 3 for the list of offenders we called about.
McDonalds may employ the most, but state police records show sex offenders working at a variety of family friendly businesses, from book stores to bowling alleys.
That disturbs parents like Basile, mostly because she knows there is little she can do about it.
"You try to think that someone has been rehabilitated to some extent, and needs to work," she said. "You just try not to let your kids out of your sight."

Meat News: Cops Burgers and Weed.. no man thats not mine

MAYBE THESE COPS FIGURED OUT WHY THE KING HAS SUCH A BIG SMILE ON HIS FACE.

Lawsuit: N.M. police ate pot laced Whoppers The Associated Press ALBUQUERQUE - Two police officers have sued Burger King Corp., claiming they were served hamburgers that had been sprinkled with marijuana. The lawsuit says Mark Landavazo and Henry Gabaldon, officers for the Isleta Pueblo tribal police, were in uniform and riding in a marked patrol car when they bought meals at the drive-through lane Oct. 8 of a Burger King restaurant in Los Lunas, N.M. The officers ate about half of their burgers before discovering marijuana on the meat, the lawsuit said. They used a field test kit to confirm the substance was pot, then went to a hospital for medical evaluations. "It gives a whole new meaning to the word 'Whopper,'" the officers' attorney, Sam Bregman, said Monday. "The idea that these hoodlums would put marijuana into a hamburger and therefore attempt to impair law enforcement officers trying to do their jobs is outrageous." Three Burger King employees were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and aggravated battery on an officer, a felony. They later were indicted. The lawsuit, filed Friday in Bernalillo County, alleges personal injury, negligence, battery and violation of fair practices. It seeks unspecified damages along with legal costs. Officials at Miami-based Burger King declined to comment, citing a company policy against discussing pending litigation.
